Lisa and Freemantle by Aarmione

Once upon a time there lived a mermaid named Lisa and her best friend dolphin named Freemantle. They loved to go on lots of adventures and solve mysteries while they swam around the very big cities of Mermaid Island.

One day when they were swimming,a net fell on Freemantle and he dodged but he was too late.Lisa thought a little bit  then she remembered that when she was born, the Queen Mermaid crowned her the Princess of Mermaid Island and gave her powers at the main palace of Mermaid Island, but she also crowned Freemantle as the prince of mermaid Island and gave him powers to save peoples lives and solve problems that the other people make on the Island.

After that Lisa says ‘Ok Freemantle, here's what we're going to do,you go back a bit while I use my Mermaid powers to free you from that net and then we’ll pay those fishermen a little visit, what do you say Freemantle’?.Then Freemantle said ‘ok  Lisa lets do it.So then Lisa made a hole in the net for Freemantle but while the fishermen kept struggling but when Lisa used her powers the net fell back on the boat.

Next Lisa and Freemantle went up to the fishermen and said’Why are you fishing here?this Island belongs to us, Mermaids. The fishermen then said’Well we didn't know that Mermaids live here’.So Lisa thought a little bit then said ‘I am going to put a curse around Mermaid Island and if  you come back to this Island with nets and place them in the water then the curse will be detected then something will happen to you’.

so then Lisa quickly wrote down on a piece of paper a contract and they made a deal that every now and then they would visit without nets and as soon they set the deal, they said goodbye to each other then they all left and so every  few weeks the fishermen would visit Lisa and Freemantle. And of course they lived happily ever after.

A Tasty Holiday

During the holidays my sister Arizona and I were waiting anxiously for my brother Tarrant to take us to his grandparents house for the weekend. When Tarrant came, he took us to Carl's Junior and bought us each a chocolate shake. He also bought me a small passion fruit cheesecake and Arizona, some fries with tomato sauce on top.

Then we went to the movie store to pick a movie to watch. The movie I picked was Alvin and the Chipmunks Chip Wrecked. Tarrant chose Rise of the Planet of the Apes.  Arizona got two packets of popcorn and a packet with a sour strip of candy inside it. Then we were on our way to Tarrant’s grandparents house that was only around the corner.

Once we reached the front door, the little sausage dog Oscar started barking at us when we came inside.  Marlene, Tarrant’s grandmother, told Oscar to be quite.  Arizona and I hung our bags over the top of the chairs and sat in the lounge and watched television for awhile, until I asked Tarrant if I could play on his computer.

After about an hour later, we got the DVD player all set up and put the Chipmunk movie on.  Two minutes later, Peter, Tarrant’s grandfather, came in and we all had a big introduction and then we had some popcorn and ice-cream with waffle cones. Then three hours later it was time for bed.Tarrant slept in his room,Marlene slept in her room with Oscar,Peter slept in his room by himself and Arizona and me slept in the lounge on the couch. The next day Arizona and I couldn’t stop jumping up and down because Tarrant’s grandfather Peter got out of bed and whipped up a nice, sweet batch of pancake mix for our breakfast.

I had six pancakes , three toast with butter and honey on top and a bowl of Weet-Bix for breakfast. Then I rushed to my bag got out my clothes and to have a refreshing shower. When I got out of the shower I got changed and I went outside to help Peter and Tarrant with the car in the garage but I lost interest and so I went back inside and played with Oscar and played some games on my brother’s computer.

Then to my surprise Nicole and Bronte Tarrant’s mum and other sister were here to pick Marlene Arizona and me to go to Bronte’s netball game around the corner. After about one hour had past and Bronte’s team had 35 to 32 so Bronte’s team won by three points. When the came was over Nicole got fish and chips for us to eat.

After I ate I sat down because I was so tired that night that I blacked out and the next thing I know it’s morning and I couldn’t remember anything except going to the take aways.Tarrant told us to get changed quickly because we were leaving to back home.

We were so excited and both sad but when we got home my mum had just started to dinner. After half an hour we had eaten our dinner and then Tarrant left to go back home.

Creating Tapa by Tauola

Room 9 students have been studying Tapa cloth designs and patterns.

First we practised our tapa cloth on a small brown piece of paper. After a while some students moved onto a piece  of white paper and drew down lots of different types of creative patterns. When we finished drawing our patterns we coloured them in different types of colours by using pastel but while we were using the pastel we had to be very careful because we had to try not smudge the colours  together.A few days later most of us completed our tapa cloth. Some of us liked doing a tapa cloth so they did another one but this time they used dye and a vivid instead of pastel for the tapa cloth.

Room 9 had an awesome time creating a Tapa cloth !

Aotearoa Strips by Alisi

Kia Ora everyone, I am so excited to tell you about what we did for our Aotearoa Strips.

First we got a brown piece of paper and drew some Maori patterns. Then we got a longer piece of paper and added them all up to make the Sky,Land and Sea. After we finished drawing our patterns we got another paper and added up all the patterns and put them in the correct place from Sky,Land and finally to the Sea.

Next, we gave our work to our teacher, and she gave us a large white piece of paper to draw our patterns carefully and big so when we dye it the dye could fit the spaces. So we started to draw our patterns big and drew it carefully.

Then, we left it for the next day to dye our strip because the class might be messy if we dyed it all together. The next day, the people that had the most artwork on their strip they had to start their dying first, but when we almost started our teacher gave us the instructions about how to use the brush, how to dry, and how to hold the brush when the dye is on it.

After that, we started to to dye our strip and chose the colours that we wanted. So the people that had most of the patterns in their strip started to dye it. Some people finished before the others. When we had finished dying our strip, we put it outside to dry for a while and then brought it back in. When our strip was dry, our teacher put them on a long piece of black paper, put our names on it. We put them out the  in corridor for everyone to see. I was proud of my Aotearoa Strip because I put in a lot of effort.

Today we had two guys from Auckland League come and give our boys at Glenbrae some rugby league coaching.  We had two teams playing and learning new skills.  It was a lot of fun and even though we had a couple of cold showery patches of rain, the boys didn't seem to mind at all.  In fact, I don't even think they noticed!

We are hoping to enter two teams into the upcoming Tamaki Cluster League Tournament.  An under 45kg team and an over 45kg team.  It will be at Dunkirk Reserve in Pt. England if you would like to come down and support us.

Wednesday, May 23, 2012

Good morning everyone.  Today is an exciting day as Glenbrae School has two teams (mixed boys and girls) competing in the annual Tamaki Cluster Netball Tournament.  It is a beautiful day so everyone should have a lot of fun.  Hopefully we will do well and enjoy a few wins.  Wish us all the best :)
